Gyrocopter Training Programs – Find the Right Path for You!

At Byron Bay Gyrocopters, we offer training programs tailored to different levels of experience. Whether you’re starting from scratch, converting from another aircraft type, or looking to refine your skills, we’ve got the perfect program for you.

1. New Pilots   (Ab-Initio Training)

If you’re new to flying, our structured training follows the official ASRA (Australian Sports Rotorcraft Association) syllabus, guiding you step by step toward earning your ASRA Pilot Certificate—a must for flying Gyrocopters in Australia.

📌 Minimum training requirements:

  • 15 hours of dual flight training with an instructor
  • 5 hours of solo flying*
  • A couple of multiple-choice written exams to complete your certification

2. Converting Pilots  (from Fixed-Wing / Helicopter/ Gliders etc)

If you’re already a fixed-wing or helicopter pilot, transitioning to Gyrocopters is faster and more efficient. ASRA recognizes many existing pilot endorsements, reducing training time significantly.

📌 Minimum training requirements:

  • 5 hours of Gyrocopter training
  • 1 hour of solo flying*
  • Completion of the required written exams

Your previous flight experience will be fully considered, ensuring a smooth and effective conversion to Gyrocopter flying.

*Supervise Solo Flights – Important to know:

Please note that, despite our best efforts to continue offering our pioneering gyroplane rental services, insurance covering damage to training aircraft is unfortunately no longer available in Australia. As a result, we regret that, from now on, students will need to complete their supervised solo flights in their own gyroplane. Please be assured, however, that all our training flights remain covered by public liability insurance.

We sincerely regret this situation and appreciate your understanding.

3. Advanced Training & Skill Development
